Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions ππ«π§
Ingredients:
- 1 lb Italian sausage (substitute with chicken or turkey sausage)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced π«
- 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced π«
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced π«
- 1 large onion, sliced π§
- 3 cloves garlic, minced π§
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil πΏ
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish) πΏ
- Hoagie rolls or Italian bread (optional for serving) π₯
Instructions:
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausages and cook until browned on all sides, about 7-8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil. SautΓ© sliced peppers, onions, and minced garlic until softened.
- Stir in oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Return the sausages to the skillet, add chicken broth, and cover. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sausages are cooked through and the flavors meld together.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve as is or in hoagie rolls or Italian bread.
Notes:
- Add a splash of balsamic vinegar for extra depth of flavor.
- Serve with a side of roasted potatoes or a fresh salad.
