Greek Chicken Gyros

Ingredients

For the chicken marinade:

  • 1lb chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 2 tablespoons of the olive oil
  • Jus de 1 citron
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 2 teaspoons of dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the tzatziki sauce:

  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt
  • 1 grated and drained cucumber
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

To serve:

  • 4 pains pita
  • 1 tomato in slices
  • 1 red onion, finely sliced
  • Fresh lettuce

Marinate the chicken:

In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, salt and pepper. Add chicken thighs and make sure they are well coated in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

Prepare the Tzatziki Sauce:

In another bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, minced dill, salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate to let the flavors melt.

Cook the chicken:

Preheat a grill or stove over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from marinade and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked through and slightly charred. Remove from heat and let rest a few minutes before finely slicing.

Assemble the gyros:

Heat pita buns on the grill or dry frying pan. Place slices of cooked chicken on each pita, followed by sliced tomato, red onion, and a handful of lettuce.

Fill every gyro with a generous spoonful of tzatziki sauce.

Servir

Fold the pitas on toppings or roll them up. Serve immediately hot.
